Themistocles The dark tiercel expanded his honey-glazed wings, strong muscles stretching wide as he flew across the plains. He soared proudly, a blissful smile on his beak. He was about to take his first step as Alpha of the new Terrawispe pack. The land he'd chose to claim was the most gorgeous territory he'd ever laid his eyes upon, and he was more happy in this moment than he had ever been in his entire life. Hopefully, his happiness would continue as he officially opened his ranks to newcomers. The Alpha could only pray that his pack would prove fertile, and that his new family would prosper here.
Themist's mighty wings pushed at the wind as he floated down near the river. The summer sun danced on the crystalline water. This was the river that would run through the very heart of his pack. It would provide life to his citizens. The massive falcon lowered his streamline a bit more, sighing a cool air rose from the water. He flew so low that his tail feathers nearly brushed the surface.
He changed the position of his wings effortlessly, surging away from the water and gliding over to the river’s edge. Themistocles searched for a suiting perch to land on. Finally, he chose to settle into a thick pine tree. He was clearly visible from where he stood, sinking his talons into the huge branch. A blissful smile appeared once again, and the Alpha took in a deep breath as the sun warmed his back. The tiercel’s chest lifted, and he let out his breath in a ringing call that tore through the land, echoing off the hills and rocks around him. “I am Themistocles. I now secure these lands as my own. They will serve as a safe, comfortable haven for anyone who wishes to join my family. Approach at your leisure, for the door to Terrawispe is now open. All are welcome and respected in this home, so I ask that you settle your spirit with us.”
Earthen irises scanned the landscape expectantly as the male awaited his first reply. With any luck, creatures would hear his announcement from miles around and would come to seek safety in behind his ranks. Pride swelled inside him, and he surveyed his lands with a newfound love. His only fear was of any black-hearted villains who chose to stain the plains with their touch. Themist would do the best he could to protect his citizens… but he would need a Beta to help him.

RONIN
The stockinged and socked pillars carried the heavy, thickset, black and white pinto Clydesdale, Gypsy Vanner cross draft stud through the lands he had just came upon. His pale teal voids scanned about for what sparse food he could find. He tilted his crown a little as he found a sparse patch of grasses. As he grazed peacefully in the open, a cool breeze dragged cold fingers over his pelt and made a slight shiver dance along his frame. The one good thing about living here though, at least to Ronin’s mind was that the amount of bugs here was greatly reduced.
As the draft grazed a cry rang out around him and Ronin raised his dial upward and flicked his towers back and forth. This was the first sound of a bird that Ronin had heard in a very long time. Hmmm…perhaps I should go and see what this bird is, perhaps a new friend. Ronin thought as he felt his chords flexing and contracting to carry the big eighteen hand high draft stud farther into the Tundra stretched before him. Smiling to himself, Ronin increased his pace to a beautiful gallop, his tassels and banner streaming behind him and the feathers dancing around his pillars. Soon he saw a lone pine and pulled back and slowed to a walk. His pale teal voids scanned along the pine and then fell upon a bird, a Peregrine Falcon sitting in the branches. Ronin let his dial rise and then he parted his maw and whinnied up at the bird. “Greetings great sir. I am known as Ronin. I heard your call, and was interested to meet the one who had called.” Then Ronin fell silent and tipped his towers to the bird and waited, waited to see what else the bird may say.

Themistocles The male falcon sat in the comfort of the tree, the lovely scent of pine wrapping around him. He was lulled by the smell, and drifted into a very relaxed state. This was good; he wanted to be in a welcoming mood when the first animal came along. Themist could hardly contain his joy. The pride he felt for his new clan was overwhelming.
Head cocked at the sound of an approaching creature, the tiercel hopped from his perch and glided gently down. Themistocles sunk his talons into another branch lower down so he could see who was greeting him. Just then, a large draft horse came into view. The creature was male, and by his posture seemed to be very respectful. This respect was also evident in his words as he greeted the falcon. Themist dipped his beak to the stallion, squaring his shoulders and looking him over briefly. He would make a strong Beta... if this was in fact the rank that he wanted.
Themistocles nodded with approval as he answered the horse. "It is my honor to meet you, sir Ronin... if I may say, you look quite strong. I would be very pleased if you would consider my offer. I wish to raise a pack in these lands, and if you want a home here, you are welcome to it." He stretched his dark wings for a moment as he settled into the company of this large male. "What do you say? Will you join me?"

Black harks flicked back and then forward as Ronin heard the falcon speaking. It is my honor to meet you, sir Ronin... if I may say, you look quite strong. I would be very pleased if you would consider my offer. I wish to raise a pack in these lands, and if you want a home here, you are welcome to it. What do you say? Will you join me? Ronin smiled gently as he remained silent for a moment. Hmmm…a home would be a good thing for me, as I’d rather not be a loner for the rest of my life. Ronin smiled again.
He dipped his crown again as he parted his white muzzle to speak to the falcon once more. “Thank you sir for the great compliment. Congratulations on your idea sir. I would be honored to live with you. If I might ask, how many in number are you?” Ronin asked the falcon before falling silent once more. The next thing then that Ronin had to wonder was what position he would take in this pack with the falcon. He’s a fair planner and a fair partial leader. Ronin flicked his long, wavy, black banner in relaxation as he tipped his harks back to the falcon as he waited.

Themistocles The mighty Alpha waited in a comfortable silence as the male thought over his question. He prayed that this kind creature would choose to make Terrawispe his home. It was intended to be a safe haven... a sanctuary. The tiercel just hoped that more would come.
Once Ronin's words entered the air, Themistocles could not help but laugh. "Thank you. But I must be honest, Ronin... you are the first. Right now, Terrawispe consists of only us. For the moment, I can only dream of the large family I envision in my mind. We will have to be patient." A smile graced his beak. "I hope this won't cause any problems for you. On the bright side, we will have peace and quiet around here until we gain more members."
Another laugh slipped out into the air. This was very enjoyable for him. "On another note, sir, you are far too talented and kind to be placed in a lowly rank. How would it be for you to start out here as my Delta?" The blissful smile fell away and he looked Ronin in the eyes with a level, serious look. "Don't make me regret placing you there, however. I trust that you will fulfill your responsibilities and prove worthy of such a position. You will be on border patrol. Make sure no hostile creatures enter our home."
Then, with a bow, Themistocles closed the deal. Ronin was now a part of the Terrawispe family. A smile lit up his face once more, and he turned to wait for the next arrival.
"Welcome to our pack, Delta Ronin."
