Shaelyn Delicate pads rose and fell against the ground. The garden was very close now. Shaelyn could just begin to smell its sweet aroma on the breeze. Her tail wagged excitedly as she imagined the taste...
The girl paused, sitting back on her haunches for a short break. She threw a multi-colored glance over her shoulder. "Hurry, Mizark! I want to find the berries before nightfall!" Shae giggled and pounced in circles around her friend before taking off in the direction of the smell. She really was hoping to enjoy the garden before dark; a gold-and-ochre horizon threatened to plunge them into blackness, and Shaelyn just wasn't ready to let this day go. Because of Mizark, it had been one of the best days in her young life.
Alabaster companions travelled across the earth together, chasing the sun as the land lost its warmth. Summer nights were always beautiful. The girl's only fear was that in the morning, her new friend would be gone. If only she could get him to promise. If only...
They crossed over the last hill, and there before them laid a fragrant expanse of berries. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries... all of them perfectly soft and sweet in the ripened weather. Shae turned and faced Mizark again. "There it is! Isn't it wonderful? Can't you smell them?"

Snow stepped lightly on the grass as made his way over the last hill in sight. He had heard tale of this place when he was a young pup in his pack, where the surroundings would change as the seasons did, beautifully too, but they had never crossed paths when it was spring or summer, and only during the harsh winter where little could be seen. But sinc he had detached of himself from his pack, he was finally able to see this place in the summer.
And it was a glorious place indeed. With the delicious smell of the berries, wafting to his noses, and as he watched the game of the plains hop about. It was obviously a place that he was unaccustommed to, but he was sure that his past sister, Summer, would have loved this place. He wished that he could have showed her the place when she was still around.
...Wait a minute, was that... No, it couldn't be, could it?
Snow ran over to the other wolf with his heart pounding. The wolf, it couldn't be, and yet... "Summer!" he called out as he began to speed up, "Summer!"
Snow abruptly stopped in his tracks when he saw the eyes of the wolf. On second look, the wolf had only looked similar to his sister, but it was soon evident that the wolf was not, and when he looked at them even closer, they weren't even wolves! They were foxes! Oh how stupid Snow was. Of course, what was he thinking? It could not possibly be his dead sister. And he lost his cool too. He gave a sigh, staring at the other wolf apologetically.
"I am... Sorry," he said, eyes slightly looked at his paws, "You reminded me of somebody that I used to know,"

Bubbly laughs echoed through the air as the male chased after her, leading him to the berry paradise. Mizark noted Shaelyn's eagerness to arrive before nightfall, and paws hit the ground that much quicker to fulfill his best friend's wish. The temperatures were beginning to drop, making the male much more comfortable in his year-round thick fur, and so he made extra effort to chase after the female.
Mizark could already smell the berries before Shaelyn had even asked the question. He slowed to take in the scent of all the deliciousness that was waiting to hop into their tummies. He kenw he shouldn't get too excited; being extremely active while eating such sweet things made his stomach uneasy. He had found this out a year ago when his parents had taken him to a much smaller berry patch, and, well, let's just say blueberries and strawberries make a very strange purple on the snow.
When bi-colored eyes opened back to reality, Mizark caught sight of a white wolf running towards Shaelyn. Instant panic set in, and he ran straight for her, putting himself between the wolf and his fox friend. A little growl echoed from deep within his chest in warning. The mystery wolf stopped and voiced his apology, thinking Shaelyn was someone he used to know. Mizark silenced his threat and moved towards Shaelyn, standing shoulder to shoulder with her, keeping his body between her and the wolf. "There's nobody named Summer here. Just us." He spoke shortly.
The male fox was slightly embarrassed at his own display of aggression, and a small apologetic bark escaped his maw. He himself had meant no harm, he had simply wished to protect Shaelyn. He didn't know how she would take the sudden appearance of a wolf born the same color as they, but he was just glad that the wolf hadn't tried to eat Shae. Mizark would have lost his mind.

Shaelyn She froze.
For a split second, the little female feared for her life as a large wolf came running towards her, shouting about... the season? A frightened yelp had just escaped her maw when Mizark came to stand between them. "No! Mizark!" she barked. She wouldn't bear it if he got himself killed because of her.
Just then, the whole environment seemed to shift. The wolf stopped and apologized, saying Shaelyn had looked like someone she knew. She'd never gotten that before, what with her strange, mismatched eyes... Mizark answered the stranger, coming to stand at the girl's shoulder. She leaned into him, lost in his touch. She felt safe when he was there to protect her, but she was still afraid for him. Shaelyn still did not trust this wolf.
"Yeah. It's just us." she snapped, making her voice very curt and unwelcoming. This was usually unlike her, but being around predators made her nervous. "Now, if you wouldn't mind, we'd like it to stay that way."
A growl gurgling in her chest, Shae nudged her friend with her nose and cocked her head towards the berries, signaling that they should go. After another cautious glare in the stranger's direction, the maiden began trotting to a bush of blackberries. "Goodbye, sir." Shaelyn called, struggling to make her voice pleasant. Then, more pleading and alluring, "Mizark? Come try the blackberries, they're delicious!"
It was true. The girl popped a few of the morsels onto her tongue, tasting them slowly, savoring the bittersweet flavors that took over her mind. When she didn't hear an answer right away, panic set in. She turned around to check on her companion, praying that he was still okay.-{(OOC: Snow, you don't really have to leave if you don't want to. Shaelyn just needs some time to warm up to the brute. Be patient with her, and she might come around. ;D)}-[/size]

It was a sight that reminded him of the times when he had protected her own sister, and vice-versa, but that wasn't something to think about at such a time, "Like I said, I apologize for interrupting your peace,"
However, Snow did raise up an eyebrow to the girl's aggressiveness. Yes, Snow may have mistaken her for someone else, but did he really show off as if he was about to eat her? "This beautiful plain is not yours, miss, it is everyone's, and while I may have mistaken you for someone else, is that really reason to forbid someone from entering the territory?" he asked, "I'm quite sure that you would be upset if someone would not allow you to enter such a place like this, wouldn't you?"
The wolf then looked back and forth from the protective male and the feisty female, such a pair that they make, and such intimidating gestures, but for the wrong situation and against the wrong person. What use was there for a guard if the wolf had not meant to harm them both? But maybe the two just needed extra reassuring that they will not be harmed, "I will not, however, disturb you and your friend, if you would allow the same for me,"
And with that, Snow walked away from the two, his tail swaying from left to right as he turned his back to the foxes. With each paw that was set on the soft grounds of the plain, a memory entered his mind and let him reminisce the times that he had with his sister. He would then sit down near a bush of berries, where his eyes would clearly be visible to the two. The wolf would begin to eat the berries slowly as if nothing was wrong, but it would be clear that his eyes hold sadness. And whether or not the foxes would react to that was their choice. | [atrb=style, background-color: #FF9100; height: 33px] | Words: 358. Tags: None. Notes: None.

The male fox blinked at the sudden series of events. His own bravery had surprised him, but Shaelyn's sharp tone had surprised him even more. He turned to her as she said her farewell to the wolf, face locked in an unsure expression. He turned back to the wolf, who was curt himself, and left them to go sample some of the berry field. An apology was readable on his facade, but he would not speak the words to the disgruntled wolf.
Shaelyn was staring at him, as though he would have drifted away. Mizark moved beside her, but positioned himself so he could keep an eye on the wolf. He did not doubt that the wolf would let them be, just as they would leave him alone, but something told him to be alert. Perhaps it was simply the presence of his friend, and the urge to protect her. These new feelings confused him greatly, but he shook his head as though to empty his crania of them.
He sampled the berries Shaelyn had suggested, drooling slightly at the taste. He noticed that the ground turned slightly blue, stained by the berries in his mouth. He yipped at what he thought to be a keen idea, and picked some of the berries from their perches. Mizark placed them onto the ground and smushed his face into them, making obnoxiously silly sounds as he did so. When he looked up to Shaelyn, that goofy grin of his was in place with his tongue lolling out of his maw. "How do I look? Is it like a mask?" The white fluff around his eyes had most definitely been stained, and some of it began to drip towards his neck. It was an awkward smear of blue, making his bi-colored eyes stand out more than usual. The boy hoped this would cheer her up and make her forget the wolf's transgressions, for the air was too thick for his own liking.

Shaelyn The girl just couldn't seem to bring herself to regret her attitude towards the wolf. He frightened her more than he realized. She wasn't going to relax around him. That's when they attack. A light wave of relief swept over Shaelyn as her friend came to share the fruits with her. She bumped her shoulder against Mizark's gratefully, and continued to enjoy the berries with him. Occasionally, Shae would cast a watchful glance at the wolf, making sure he wasn't about to sneak up on them.
The girl's attention shifted to Mizark as he smashed his face into a dark pile of berries. A laugh escaped her muzzle. "Yes, it does look like a mask... but how about this?"
Shaelyn threw one more look at the predator. Then she pressed her head into a pile of raspberries, rubbing the stained juices into her fur. The white maiden hoped the tint would go away with a bath or two. When she finally lifted her crown and shook the excess liquid from her eyes, a grin lit up her face. She knew the roseate color was sure to compliment her eyes. "How do I look?" Shae chirped, pawing at her companion playfully.
Her tassel swayed happily. Her troubles were forgotten... for the moment. She twirled around to check on the wolf and, seeing that he hadn't moved, completed the spin and faced Mizark once more. Bopping him on the nose, the maiden let out a sweet giggle. This was beginning to be even more fun than she had imagined. If only the other, larger male weren't here to ruin it all.
