The white wolf walked slowly. His paw pads registering the fact that he was walking on snow, and his fur bristled with the coldness that he was oh so accustomed to ever since he was born. The others in the pack wasn't as comfortable in the coldness as he was; the white wolf had always thought of the winter as his home. Standing on the peak of the mountain covered by white, with his claws digging in the fresh, soft snow and his whole self blending in with his surroundings, except for his piercing light blue eyes, he looked out towards the land below him. The wild wilderness as far as anyone can see, inhabited by the prey and the predators. A haven for the beasts. Snow, on the other hand, could only look and close his eyes slightly, ears back as he reveled in the icy winds of the mountain. The icy winds that he knew so well and the lands below that he could remember so well as if it was only yesterday that he had visited upon the peaks. It certainly wasn't that because he had left the peaks for weeks, but it was because something horrible had happened here. Her sister was pushed off the cliff, this very cliff, in her brother's place. He could still remember the howls from his sister, pleading for help as she fell, mercilessly, to her deaths below, but what could he do? He couldn't fly back then, surely, and he was also too much in shock to be able to do anything coherently. Back then, he couldn't even look at his sister when she was falling, and he never really did take a good look at her body. So now, he did what he could do: he howled. He was still angered by the thought of his own helplessness. He had never thought that he could possibly visit this place once more, but there he was. He was reluctant at first, but he had to properly mourn for his sister. Just as how a human being would pray for their passed loved ones by their graves, the peaks was his sister's grave. He didn't have time for this before, as he had immediately fled the place that night, and since he knew that his pack would have left this place by now, he thought that this time would have been better than ever. So he sat on the soft snow, and he howled. Grieving, mourning, as his howl was full of sadness and pain, calling out to his lost sister. |
